Hardware Purchase Recommendation

  • Avalon Lab team does not recommend using the brand-new hardware. brand-new Hardware is NEVER required for running Windows Client OS, Windows Servers and so on. As of 2024/Oct, at least for making these OSs running well, Intel i5 CPU Gen8 level is very sufficient as long as Memory capacity is enough ie. 32GB.
  • Re-Use Laptop PC is the most efficient and benefitable for you to perform testing and training.
  • Save the money and use it for your other hardware purchase which should be Re-Use PC again.
  • Avalon Lab team residences in Japan. In Japan, best online-shop for purchase Machine is.
  • Do not select any options in the Re-Use PC shopping as it is expensive.
  • Use Amazon or similar cost benefitable online shopping service for purchasing any extra equipment such as Memory module, USB NIC, Switch, Cable and so on.
  • You must install any extra devices by your-self. That process will give you the valuable experience to understand about the Intel based Computer hardware.

“All In One Lab Kit” Hardware recommendation

  • Intel i5 or i7 Gen 8 or greater Laptop with more than 500GB Storage.
    • x2 USB-A 3.0 (3.2 gen1 or greater) ports
    • x1 USB-C port.
    • Working battery (For flexibility of hardware handling)
    • Display – At least the recognizable what is in screen.
    • Working 1GB internal NIC.
    • CPU – Gen 8 or greater with up to 8 CPU (When Hyperthreading turned on)
    • Memory – can be up to 32GB or more.
    • Keyboard – to be working but, external keyboard can help if broken.
    • Internal SSD (M.2 SSD, 2,5inch SSD or PCIE SSD) capacity to be more than 500GB.
      • No matter about the type of SSD Disk.

    • Dell Latitude 5300

      In “Re-use” PC market, as of 2024/Oct, Costs About 20,000 JPY.
    • Dell Latitude 7290
      Similar to 5300 but, the machine is a bit expensive.
    • Memory module is to be replaced with 32GB module
      • Latitude 5300 has 2 memory slots capable up to 16GB each. 16GB DDR 4-26000 SO-DIMM module x2 are to be installed.

      • Lattitude 7290 has only 1 memory slot capable up to 32GB. x1 32 GB DDR4-26000 SO-DIMM is to be installed.
    • Storage is to be upgrade to 500GB or more if the Laptop does not contain enough.
      • You can find any reasonable price M.2 SSD module with 500GB or 1TB in Amazon etc.

        As of 2024/Oct in market, it costs about 10,000 JPY.

“Standard Lab baseline Kit” Hardware Recommendation

  • x 1 Core Platform Server
  • x 1 Storage Service Server
  • x 1 or 2 Hyper-V servers
  • For these total 3 Servers, baseline Machine spec is same as “All In One Lab Kit”. (except Storage recommendation item. See below.)
  • 1TB or 2TB M.2 Storage module is to be assigned to Storage server.
    • Other servers do NOT require the storage module replacement. 256 GB storage size is sufficient.
  • In addition to the PC hardware, as it requires to be connected through LAN Switch, consider buying the following additional equipment.
    • USB NIC for Storage network
      • Storage Server and Hyper-V servers requires to install USB High Speed NIC into USB port.
    • Switch for Storage network
      • 2.5GB 5 Port Switch for Home use is available in Market with Resonable Price.
      • If not 2.5GB Switch, 1GB 5 Port switch is the MUST.
    • LAN cable with Category 6 or 7 for machines getting connected to Storage network Switch.
